Discernment and human purpose

Generative AI has been changing how the world works and learns. For Xavier, the question was how to act. The film describes the university’s response through the Jesuit value of discernment and guidance from Rome in 2026.

Portraits of Pope Leo XIV accompany excerpts from his message for the 60th World Day of Social Communications and Magnifica Humanitas, section 15. The excerpts call for media, information, and AI literacy that develops critical thinking and freedom of spirit, and for protecting human dignity in an age of AI.

Two tests guide Xavier’s work: it must form critical thinkers, and it must keep us profoundly human.

The strategy in practice

For students, the film highlights the B.A. in Artificial Intelligence and three courses: MGMT 342, Managing AI & Emerging Technology; BUAD 761, Artificial Intelligence and Competitive Advantage; and EDFD 201, AI Foundations for Every Field.

For the 2026–27 student experience, it introduces a Road to Xavier AI literacy module offered to every incoming student, hello MUSKIE as Xavier’s AI concierge app for enrolled students, and AI learning goals in first-year writing.

A home for the work

The strategy needs a home. The film announces that, over the 2026–27 academic year, the Center for Innovation will become The Loop, the centerpiece of Xavier’s AI strategy.

An animated circuit explains the name. AI sends a proposal to a human checkpoint; human judgment guides the work and returns direction through the circuit. AI’s promise for work, classrooms, and everyday life depends on people staying in the loop.

The film introduces The Loop’s core offering, a Responsible & Effective AI Micro-credential, free for every employee, with cohorts beginning in fall 2026. It then announces free AI literacy education for the wider Xavier network, including students, alumni, and families, beginning in January 2027.

The closing invitation is to follow the work and find your place in it at loop.xavier.edu. The film ends with Xavier’s motto, “All for One.”
